Today let's reflect on
two questions prompted by Dan Bohi's closing thoughts during this past Sunday's
sermons.
7:45 a.m. service: Are we dead to sin
and dead to self?
A person who is dead cannot be offended or distracted. Just as a
body in a casket is positioned to have its face turned upward, we as believers
dead to sin and dead to self continually keep our faces turned toward God. We
are not moved by dissenting voices that may speak of evils or attempt to entice
us into sin. We are not distracted by the images of raging seas and dire
circumstances. Our gaze is fixed on our Lord. God has our full
attention.
11:15 a.m. service: Are we passionately in love with Jesus?
In the narrative from Luke 10:38-42, Martha was extremely distracted by all
the things she was doing. Her works, though good, were keeping her from
hearing the voice of Jesus. Mary, on the other hand, pressed
in close to Jesus, so that she could gain all
she could from being in His presence. Today we are called to learn a lesson
from these sisters: when we shut ourselves off from the busyness, we will be
able to hear clearly from our Lord. God will have
our full attention.
Who,
or what, has captured your full attention today?
Lord Jesus, cause
us to look only to You, so that we might look more and more like You.
